AFL - The Brownlow Medal

The Brownlow Medal
The Brownlow medal is an event which occurs during Grand Final week of the AFL finals series at Crown Melbourne and is quite similar as the UEFA Player of the Year award. At every game during the season, the umpires list 3 of the best players at the conclusion of every game on a report card. These report cards are hidden away and are only taken out on the day and taken straight to Crown Melbourne. The CEO (Chief Executive Officer) of the AFL, Gillon McLachlan reads out all three names on the card and the score the umpires give to the player, these scores are all calculated to give the all round best player in the season for that year.

Before the Brownlow event, the players walk a red carpet with their partners (wives or girlfriends). All partners are also judged who is the best dressed partner. Due to this reason, all partners go all out to try and look their best to win the best dressed partner on the day.

The action is also available through the AFL website through the Brownlow Medal Hub. This site gives you access to Brownlow news, videos, a live tracker to see how the Brownlow count is going, images from the Red Carpet event, history and a predictor to allow you to see who is the favourite for the next Brownlow event at the end of the season in which Geelong Cats player Patrick Dangerfield is the favourite to win.
